Agency outbound needs client isolation, not just more mailboxes. How the main tools handle multi-tenant sending, reputation blast radius, and per-client cost.

Agency outbound is a different problem from in-house outbound, and most tool comparisons miss why. It is not that you need more mailboxes or more seats. It is that you are running many independent reputations at once, and the thing that will hurt you is one of them contaminating the others.

Ask one question of any tool you are evaluating: if a client uploads a bad list next Tuesday, who else suffers?
A workspace boundary in the interface is not an answer. Separate dashboards, separate logins, separate reporting, none of that affects where the mail physically travels. If two clients share sending infrastructure, they share reputation, and a complaint spike on one is a delivery problem for the other. That is a commercial risk, not just a technical one: it means your worst-run client sets the ceiling for your best-run one.
Real isolation has two layers. Domain isolation is mandatory and straightforward: every client sends from their own dedicated outbound domains, never their primary corporate domain and never a domain shared with another client. Reputation isolation is the harder one, and it is where tools differ.
How the main platforms handle it

The economics agencies actually face
Two structural costs get missed when pricing client work.
Quiet months. Client churn, onboarding gaps, and campaign pauses mean any given client is not sending every month. Subscriptions bill identically through those months. If your average client is active nine months of the year, you are paying twelve months of platform cost for nine months of delivery, and that gap comes out of your margin rather than theirs.
Infrastructure per client. Each client needs their own domains and mailboxes. A common assumption is that every client should get a dedicated IP. That is not right, and getting it wrong is expensive.

But a dedicated IP starts with no reputation at all, requires proper warm-up, and needs sustained volume to maintain standing. A client sending a few thousand emails a month may genuinely perform worse on a cold dedicated IP than on a well-managed shared one.
Segment by risk and volume. High-volume, clean-data clients benefit most. Low-volume clients are usually better served by domain isolation alone, with careful monitoring.
The operational standard
The thing that separates agencies with stable deliverability from agencies constantly firefighting is not tool choice, it is having a setup standard and applying it identically to every client.
Every client gets dedicated outbound domains with a single correct SPF record, 2048-bit DKIM with a verified selector, and DMARC with real alignment. Mailboxes get warmed before carrying volume. Lists get re-verified immediately before sending rather than at export, because data decays between the two moments. Volume scales by adding mailboxes, never by increasing per-mailbox output.
Then monitor bounce and complaint rates per client, not in aggregate. Aggregate numbers hide the one account that is about to cause a problem, and by the time it shows up in the total it has usually already spread.
